Sweden Zoo: 3 Chimpanzees eluding from Cages
A zoo in Sweden decided to kill
3 chimpanzees after they escaped from their cages as the situation spirals out
of control on Thursday, according to zoo management. A fourth monkey has been
killed, according to the company that runs the Vorovik zoo, about 200 km north
of the capital Stockholm. Annika Troselius, spokesperson for parks and resorts
at the park, said: "Chimpanzees are an animal that poses many risks
because staying outside the park poses a risk to human life."
Five Of The Zoo's Seven Chimpanzees Escaped Their Cages
On Wednesday, five of the zoo's
seven chimpanzees escaped from their cages for unknown reasons and are on the
loose near the zoo. The department explained that their anesthesia "was
not an alternative because firing a numbing dart required the person to be very
close to the animal and release the anesthetic after ten minutes." The
department said in a Facebook post Thursday afternoon that the four monkeys
were still alive in the monkey section but had not been returned to their
cages.
AFP - The Park is closed during this season
"That means we can't let people roam the park and we are on constant alert," AFP told the administration. The park is closed during this season, but staff were present at the time of the incident.
